The Effects of Ageism Experience on Ego Integrity and Quality of Life

Abstract

|
In this study, we investigated the effects of ageism experience of the elderly on ego integrity and quality of life, where the ego integrity is mediated between ageism experience and quality of life. To investigate the cause and effect of factors, we purposively collected 297 samples from a senior welfare center in Jeonju and exploited reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and SEM(Structural Equation Modeling) for 282 cases excluding some cases with missing values. As the
results, first, we confirmed the increase of ageism experience decreased the ego integrity. Second, the increase of ageism experience degraded the quality of life. Third, the ego integrity positively influenced the quality of life. Fourth, the ageism experience has effects directly as well as indirectly on the quality life. Based on the results, we could suggest that in the aged society combating law, policy, and propaganda against ageism would significantly influence on the elderly’s ego integrity and quality of life.
